Introducing aikido
Aikido, pronounced ‘eye-key-do’, is a martial way from Japan and is usually translated as a “way of harmonising and coordinating one’s spirit”. Its origins come from the classical arts of Japanese swordsmanship, empty-hand combat, and Eastern philosophy. It was developed by Morihei Ueshiba, known by many as O'Sensei.
Aikido is not a technique to fight and defeat an enemy. It is a way to reconcile the world and make human beings one family.

Seiichi Sugano sensei (1939-2010)
Sugano sensei was a direct student of O'Sensei and a gifted teacher who had a big influence in establishing aikido in Australia. He had a unique natural ability, and a complete and compelling way of training. We were lucky enough to receive direct instruction from him and through Brisbane Aikikai under the technical lead of Chris Seto-Payne sensei.

Shimamoto sensei personified the beauty, dignity, kindness and compassionate nature of zen and the arts. We are extremely lucky to be affiliated with Shosenji dojo (Toyonaka, Osaka) through Aikido Shoryukai Australia under the technical lead of David Kolb sensei of Bayside Budokai.
