Aikido, pronounced ‘eye-key-do’, is a martial way from Japan and is usually translated as a “way of harmonising and coordinating one’s spirit”. Its origins come from the classical arts of Japanese swordsmanship, empty-hand combat, and Eastern philosophy. It was developed by Morihei Ueshiba, known by many as O'Sensei.
Morihei Ueshiba
Sugano sensei was a direct student of O'Sensei and a gifted teacher who had a big influence in establishing aikido in Australia. He had a unique natural ability, and a complete and compelling way of training. We were lucky enough to receive direct instruction from him and through Brisbane Aikikai under the technical lead of Chris Seto-Payne sensei.
We are profoundly grateful to DB sensei for his friendship, immeasurable generosity, ongoing visits and direct instructions promoting the legacy of Sugano sensei's teachings.
David Brown sensei's unique insight and ability is unparalleled and truly inspiring. Seek him out if you're visiting Melbourne.
Shimamoto sensei personifies the beauty, dignity, kindness and compassionate nature of zen and the arts. We are extremely lucky to be affiliated to Shosenji dojo through Bayside Budokai under the technical lead of David Kolb sensei.
